The Many Advantages of Email Marketing

Email marketing is one very efficient tool that companies can use to tap prospective clients for their business. While it essentially follows the same premise of sending direct mail to customers, instead of coursing it through the post office, email marketing messages are sent it via electronic means instead.

Despite the fact that the email medium has been used and abused by spammers, it is still a very much used and valued method that business owners can take advantage of to send colorful, tempting and above all, timely messages, advertisements and information.

Email marketing messages need not necessarily be sent to each person individually, taking up a lot of time to prepare separate messages. Instead, making use of an email marketing system that will enable businesses to send dozens of messages to  many different people at the same time.

Because a lot of people regard email marketing messages as “spam” emails, fit only to be thrown into their junk mail folders, any company or business that sends out email marketing messages without much careful thought or planning may incur a negative image. The main reason this happens is that some businesses, and most “spam” artists acquire their lists of email contacts from providers who have a less than sterling reputation. What happens is that these companies and spammers send hundreds and thousands of email messages to email addresses that may not actually be part of their target market. This results in a lot of email marketing messages getting classified as junk, together with most of the “spam”.

Businesses will have a better chance of email marketing success if they opt to send email newsletters to their existing customers and a select number of prospective clients instead of shooting off thousands of email messages to a list of untargeted people. As part of the policies and regulations imposed on businesses that undertake email marketing, there will need to be a provision that allows the recipients of email marketing messages to opt out of receiving any further emails should they prefer.

Email marketing presents a lot of advantages for companies whose marketing efforts require timely communication with their customers. For one, email is a popular  medium which is already likely to be used by the company’s target market, making email marketing messages more accessible to them.

Email is “viral”. Like a virus, it can be passed on to many people simply by using email’s forward function. This means, like oft-passed about email jokes and chain letters, email marketing messages stand a chance of being forwarded to many people, as well. In addition, email is fast. It can be sent and read within minutes without the delays that printing and mailing can cause. It gives businesses the ability to send up-to-the-minute information wherever and whenever a client or prospective customer prefers.

Unlike direct mail, email marketing messages can be automated. Messages can be scheduled in advanced, and some email systems allow automatic creation of form emails that can be sent to customers to update them on the latest news about the company.

A business with a marketing plan will benefit greatly from incorporating email marketing into its system. There are a lot of businesses that have started using email marketing to enhance and even replace their direct mail marketing campaigns. Email marketing is considerably less expensive compared to mailing hundreds, or even thousands of envelopes through the post office. It is even much easier to track electronically compared to slow mail.
